• On November 11 at 2 pm, the Barefoot Contessa herself, Ina Garten, will be making an appearance at Borders in Torrence. Ms. Garten is promoting her new book Barefoot Contessa at Home: Everyday Recipes You’ll Want to Make Over and Over Again.
• Also on November 11, chef Suzanne Tracht is offering her last cooking class of the year at her restaurant Jar. Students will learn to make Belgian endive and Asian pear salad with Humboldt fog and apple cider vinaigrette; Lamb Shank, star anise, coriander, garlic; Kobocha squash, leeks, sage; and Honey Pecan Pie. The class runs from 11 am to 2 pm and costs $95 per person. Call 323-655-6566 to make a reservation. Enrollment is limited so call soon.
• Champagne Tasting at Silverlake Wine: Enjoy a sample of four different champagnes as well as an aparatif. And to make sure the bubbly doesn’t go to your head, each champage is paired with an hors d’oeuvre that compliments the flavor. Novemebr 12, 3 pm. $20 per person.
