I Tried the New Kraft Singles Flavors, and My Grilled Cheese Will Never Be the Same
I love grilled cheese sandwiches. I know that I am not alone in this declaration, but it is an inescapable truth. Grilled cheese sandwiches are, in my humble opinion, the most superior type of sandwich. They’re hot and buttery, just plain-old delicious, and only require a few simple ingredients: sliced bread, butter, and Kraft Singles. Could you use other cheese? Probably. But why? Kraft Singles are undeniably synonymous with grilled cheese sandwiches, and for good reason. So, naturally, when I found out that Kraft was releasing three brand-new Kraft Singles flavors, I knew I had to break out the griddle pan and give them a try.
3 Brand-New Kraft Singles Flavors Have Arrived
Kraft recently announced the addition of three new flavors to the Kraft Singles lineup: Jalapeño, Garlic & Herb, and Caramelized Onion. I was equally excited and surprised, as this is the first time the brand has debuted new flavors in almost a decade. Not since the introduction of Pepper Jack and Sharp Cheddar had Kraft given me such a good reason to make this many grilled cheese sandwiches in one sitting. Kraft Singles in hand, I grabbed some butter and got to work preparing a grilled cheese feast.
Jalapeño
I started with jalapeño, mostly because I am not the most adventurous when it comes to spicy food, so I figured I would begin with the flavor I expected to enjoy the least. Fortunately for my super-sensitive palate it brought just the right amount of heat. The jalapeño delivered enough of a kick to spice up your standard grilled cheese or traditional sandwich, but it wasn’t an overpowering amount of spice.
What I appreciated the most about this particular variety is that each slice is speckled with little jalapeños, so you get an impressively even distribution of spice in every bite. While jalapeño is probably not ever going to be my go-to flavor choice for anything, I was delighted by how tasty the Jalapeño Kraft Singles are, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who typically likes to add a little kick to their sandwiches.
Garlic & Herb
I am almost entirely convinced that every savory dish tastes even better with garlic and herbs, and Garlic & Herb Kraft Singles only further proved me right. It made for a rich and creamy grilled cheese with a punch of garlic — and, honestly, what’s not to love about that?
Just like the jalapeño variety had evenly distributed jalapeño pieces, the Garlic & Herb variety had garlicky, herby goodness evenly speckled throughout for just the right amount of flavor in every bite. I actually found myself snacking on this flavor while my sandwich sizzled in the pan. It was almost like eating sour cream and onion chips. Although the taste is fairly rich, if this flavor combo is one of your favorites, this is definitely a solid choice.
Caramelized Onion
Last up was the Caramelized Onion flavor, which was definitely the most subtle of the three. Where the others hit you with a bold punch of flavor, the Caramelized Onion Kraft Singles felt like a gentle way to step up the flavor of a traditional sandwich.
While the other two flavors felt like they needed to stand alone, this flavor would be a nice complement to other toppings, like tomatoes. However, just like the other two varieties, the flavor distribution was even throughout. If I had to choose, I would say that Caramelized Onion was my favorite of all three flavors, and the one I would be most likely to repurchase for my future grilled cheese sandwich-making endeavors.
Grilled Cheese Will Never Be the Same
Overall, Kraft’s new Kraft Singles flavors are total game-changers when it comes to grilled cheese sandwiches and sandwiches in general. They pack all of the same fun flavor that potato chips have boasted for years, so they’re great to eat on their own or in a sandwich. If you’re a die-hard grilled cheese sandwich lover like me, you’re definitely going to want to give these a try.
