Okay, so it technically costs $999.99, if you want to be a stickler about it.

Launching today, exclusively on KitchenAid’s website, is the new Artisan Black Tie Limited=Edition 5=Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer.

This fancy newcomer is made with all black finishes and high-end materials, including die-cast zinc, satin, and black chrome. It’s basically a flashy sports car that has been morphed into a kitchen appliance.

Yes, you could already get a black stand mixer on the site for a more reasonable (yet still pricey) couple-hundred bucks, but that one was not matte. And it was not part of a limited edition. Likewise, the stainless steel bowl and attachments were not black.

How limited is this limited edition? The company only made 500 of these sleek, matte black mixers and once they’re gone, they’re gone. (Each one is numbered, so you know where yours falls in the order.)

P.S.: If your kitchen isn’t the black-tie type, and it’s more of a jeans-and-a-T-shirt (granted, a really nice T-shirt) kind of space, and you’re willing to spend the dough, you can hold out until next year. This is the first in an annual release of limited-edition mixers. That means, every year, there will now be some sort of crazy new launch.

There’s no word on what KitchenAid is working on for 2018, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a clear or glow-in-the-dark option. Or maybe one that changes colors like the horses in The Wizard of Oz? Oh, please make one that changes colors! Now that’s something we’d be willing to pay $1,000 for.
