KitchenAid Just Dropped a Gorgeous New Stand Mixer in the Most Perfect Fall Color (With a Wood Mixing Bowl!)
At The Kitchn, we are big fans of the KitchenAid stand mixer. Multiple members of our shopping team have one in their kitchens, which they use to whip up delicious bakes that they thankfully decide to share with the rest of the office. Not only does the mixer look beautiful, it’s considered the ultimate baker’s assistant because it makes everything from cookies to pies a breeze. Plus, it has a slew of attachments, some of which we’ve put to the test, that can make everything from pasta to shaved ice. The KitchenAid stand mixer isn’t cheap but it is worth every penny in my opinion.
KitchenAid just released its 2024 Design Series Mixer, and we are obsessed. The KitchenAid stand mixer is already a coveted appliance amongst home bakers, but the newest design, which boasts a new color and a new bowl style really takes the cake — pun intended.
What Is the KitchenAid New Color?
The 5-quart mixer got quite the makeover: The mixer’s new color is a chic matte evergreen, paired with a brass-coated hub cover featuring a leaf design, though instead of the classic stainless steel bowl, there’s a walnut wood bowl in its place. Every walnut bowl is unique, too, because of the variation in the wood grain. We don’t expect this new launch to remain in stock for long!
This is the first time that KitchenAid has ever done a true walnut bowl, according to the brand, so of course we had to put it to the test ourselves to see how it differs from the stainless steel bowl we’re all used to.
Why I Love the Evergreen KitchenAid with the Walnut Wooden Bowl
As soon as I saw the photo of the new KitchenAid design, I knew I had to try it. It felt like it was specifically targeted at my home decor aesthetic. Forest green is one of the main colors in my small one-bedroom apartment and as much as I love the brighter KitchenAid hues, the matte finish made this appliance look more stately (especially with the brass detail) and timeless, so it’ll look nice on my (hopefully larger) kitchen counter a decade from now.
But the big difference between this and other KitchenAid mixers is the walnut wooden bowl design, in lieu of the stainless steel the mixer usually boasts. Although I loved the way the bowl looked, I wondered if it’d perform the same way, so I made my mom’s brownie recipe over the weekend to put it to the test.
The walnut wood is smooth to the touch both inside and outside of the mixer. The bowl still locks in, thanks to the steel rim along the bottom of it. As I was mixing my batter, I honestly didn’t notice any difference. The batter was as easy to scrape off the walnut bowl as it was the stainless steel one. Although, I knew the real test would be cleaning it.
This walnut bowl is not dishwasher safe and KitchenAid recommends using a gentle laundry soap on it while cleaning with warm water. Plus, it can’t sit to “soak” in the sink for long periods of time, as it’ll warp the wood. The retailer does warn that over time, the mixing bowl might scratch but that it won’t affect its performance.
With all of this in mind, I carefully examined the walnut bowl as I handwashed it. As someone who does not have a dishwasher, handwashing this bowl would have had to happen one way or another. My laundry soap didn’t affect the coloring of the bowl and my brownie adventure hadn’t added a single scratch or knick to the bowl (despite using chocolate chips). I let the wooden bowl air dry on a towel, which it did within a half hour. So far, it seems to hold up as well as the stainless steel bowl — it just requires a bit more care and attention.
