Creating a wedding registry is arguably one of the best parts of getting married. As a recent bride, registering for our wedding was one of the few stress-free aspects of the planning process that my now-husband and I could enjoy together. After all, the wedding registry is essentially a grown-up wish list — and a socially acceptable one, to boot!

The only challenge? Resisting the urge to register for anything and everything we could potentially want or need. As a city-dwelling couple with limited kitchen storage, striking the balance between style and utility is key.

While I made it out of the wedding planning process completely unscathed (and with a fully upgraded kitchen!), the new class of soon-to-be brides is still in the thick of it. In an effort to simplify the planning process for 2024 and 2025 brides, I’m paying it forward by rounding up the best wedding registry gift ideas for every type of home cook, thanks to the help of nuptial experts from wedding registry and planning site Zola.

15 Kitchen Essentials You Need on Your Wedding Registry

Start with a durable cookware set.

Whether you’re a novice home chef or a seasoned pro, every kitchen needs a solid foundation. Consider the cooking equivalent to be a selection of pots and pans in the most functional sizes.

“Zola couples are opting for ‘better-for-you’ items for themselves, not just the planet. They’re saying ‘no’ to items with PTFE and PFAS chemicals, instead registering for ceramic nonstick cookware and bakeware sets from brands like Caraway Home which are all non-toxic,” says Zola’s Registry and Etiquette Expert, Allison Cullman. I love this inclusive Cookware Set, which comes with a fry pan, saucepan, sauté pan, and Dutch oven.

Consider multi-use cookware.

Fellow city-dwellers who are short on storage (or who prefer simple, one-pan meals) should consider an all-in-one cookware option. “Zola couples are also gravitating towards items that are space-conscious, designed with a small footprint. This reinforces the trend we’re seeing towards minimalistic, uncluttered spaces,” says Cullman.

Our Place’s bestselling Always Pan 2.0 has become a kitchen must-have, and for good reason! This 10-in-1 pan quite literally does it all, from boiling and baking to steaming and storing, and it comes in a variety of trending colors.

Add a stand mixer.

The Kitchn editors aren’t the only ones who love the KitchenAid stand mixer — it’s Zola’s most popular item on wedding registries! Adding this easy-to-use appliance to your registry is the easiest way to fulfill your childhood fantasy of owning a bakeshop.

Don’t overlook the air fryer.

For the past five years, my “For You” page has been flooded with easy air fryer recipes — and I’m ashamed to say it took me a long time to lean in. Now that I’ve seen the light, I can confirm the air fryer is one of the best kitchen products I own. It’s extremely versatile and cooks (almost) anything, in about half the time as an oven!

The Beautiful 3-Quart Air Fryer by Drew Barrymore is Kitchn editors’ pick for a budget-friendly option. Leave it to Drew, our ultra-relatable queen, to design the perfect cute, compact, and under-$40 option!

For a dual-purpose option, consider Our Place’s Wonder Oven. It’s a highly efficient air fryer that doubles as a toaster, as well as a slew of other helpful functions.

Trade in your toaster.

Speaking of toasters, don’t forget to add this classic to your registry. While many couples already have a trusty toaster from their college days, this is one humble appliance that deserves an upgrade. According to Cullman, “Today’s couples are choosing kitchen items that reflect their style and bring personality into their home, discovering new colorways on social media.” Consider this your blessing to make an aesthetically driven choice!

Smeg’s catalog of kitchenware is the ultimate Danish decor moodboard, and their toasters also work as a standalone for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the pastel color scheme before fully diving in. “Pastel colors are trending with both cookware and appliances, marking a departure from traditional stainless steel and black,” says Cullman.

Mix in a quality blender.

As a lifelong smoothie-lover, my blender has served me well. What was originally purchased as a personal blender has evolved into the most-used appliance in our married life, and the ease of use has even turned my husband into a smoothie fan, too.

The nutribullet Pro is a compact and highly durable option. Use it to make a large smoothie for one, or whip up two medium-sized smoothies when you’re feeling generous. Don’t forget to stock up on To-Go Cups as well!

Don’t forget (eco-friendly) accessories.

“Recycling is trending outside of the bin,” notes Cullman. Beyond sustainable cookware, couples are opting for recycled materials in all their kitchen accessories.

The top cutting board pick? The Material ReBoard Cutting Board, which is made with recycled plastic and renewable sugarcane. It’s also the go-to cutting board for millions of Zola couples!

After preparing a meal and washing the dishes, it’s time to dry. Trade in the old, stained, and mismatched towels for a set that matches your taste, like the Modern Check Recycled Dish Towel. Not only do they make a cute set, but they’re also made with recycled polyester, making this pick a win-win.

Consider your caffeine intake.

While a daily latte may not be the sole reason millennials are putting off home ownership, it is a cost that adds up quickly. Transition your daily coffee (or tea!) habit into a DIY moment by recreating your go-to drinks at home with these stylish finds.

There’s a good chance that classic coffee drinkers probably already own a drip coffee maker. And while I’m sure your Mr. Coffee machine is still working perfectly fine, this is a great time to upgrade. The ‘50s Retro Style Aesthetic Drip Filter Coffee Machine is a great option for coffee drinkers who appreciate a minimalistic morning sip.

Nespresso is the gold standard of at-home espresso drinks, and their latest line of Vertuo machines are a great option for every latte-lover. My Vertuo Next has been a game-changer on early mornings, giving me the option to whip up a lavender latte in minutes while taking up minimal precious counter space.

Tea drinkers have needs, too — so don’t forget to register for a tea kettle if that’s your caffeine of choice. The MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check Tea Kettle is a stylish checker-print option that will heat up your tea quickly, while doubling as a trendy decor piece.

Lean into your interests.

According to Cullman, “Couples are adding elevated at-home food prep appliances like outdoor Ooni or indoor Breville pizza ovens, bringing a restaurant-style experience to their home.” And while a pizza oven might not top every newlywed’s list, it’s important to lean into your interests and get real about what you’ll actually use.

For some couples, rice is a mealtime mainstay. Get the perfect, most evenly cooked rice of your dreams by using a rice cooker instead of the stovetop. I love the Black+Decker 6-Cup Rice Cooker, an affordable and essential option for all rice fanatics.

While some might not see the necessity of a waffle maker, I believe this is one area where we should agree to disagree. Waffles are a breakfast staple, and if you’re the Rufus Humphrey of your friend group (that’s a Gossip Girl reference, for those wondering), having a waffle maker on-hand is an excellent decision. Consider the DASH Flip Belgian Waffle Maker, a well-reviewed, under-$40 option which will make your weekend mornings significantly more enjoyable.

I love waiting in line at Van Leeuwen as much as the next girl, but making my own ice cream is the next logical step in my dessert journey. The Ninja NC301 CREAMi Ice Cream Maker has received glowing reviews among my friend group (and Kitchn editors!), thanks to its ability to easily make gelato, sorbet, milkshakes, and smoothie bowls.
