Wallpaper is great for transforming any space in your home without doing a major, more costly renovation, especially in the kitchen. It can add a touch of flair and color without paint, and there are so many removable peel-and-stick options that are easy enough to swap out. But not all wallpaper is created equal. I spoke to interior designers on the hottest wallpaper trends on their way in for 2025, and which are heading out the door in the new year.

Kitchen Wallpaper Trends on Their Way in for 2025

1. Bold Patterns with Darker Shades

Alexis Woodbury, an interior designer at The Woodbury Home, noted that floral and striped patterns have had a resurgence of popularity and are totally in for 2025. “Wallpaper can bring beautiful life into a kitchen,” she says. “It seems these [bold] choices will continue to be popular in 2025, but lean into the dark brown and red color scheme.” In terms of color palettes, “these patterns mixed with the richness of browns and reds will create intimate and personalized kitchens this upcoming year.” One of Woodbury’s favorite patterns at the moment is this moody burnt brown shade

2. Earthy Tones

Lisa Mabey, an interior designer at Lisee Ree Designs, is big on earth-toned shades when it comes to wallpapers. “Earthy colors — especially blues and greens — are strong contenders for kitchens going into 2025,” she says. “With color-drenching coming onto the scenes, picking a color-rich wallpaper in a deep blue or green is a great way to pull a coordinating color for cabinets and trim.” Mabey’s personal favorites are this calming green floral wallpaper and this burnt orange floral pattern

3. Functional Wallpaper

There’s also a greater emphasis on function than decoration these days. Cathy Hobbs, an interior designer and author of Home Design Recipes, says: “In is wallpaper that is functional such as erasable or removable/adjustable wall decals.” She recommends using something like this stylish weekly calendar, which is also a removable wallpaper.

4. Oversized Florals

Hobbs also praised flowers in a big way for 2025. “Florals are more popular than ever and especially big, bold blooms. Instead of small print wallpaper, go for big, oversized wall stickers that can be placed in the pattern of your choice.” One of her favorite patterns of the moment is this pink peony wallpaper. Talk about making a statement!

1. Gray Shades

Not everything is new again — Mabey notes that an old favorite isn’t so much of a favorite anymore. “Sorry my gray-loving friends, but it’s time to warm our homes up. After so long with cold grays, the sun is coming out in color and warmth,” she says.

2. Busy Geometric Patterns

Mabey also shared her distaste for bold lines and shapes on wallpaper. “Strict geometrics have been an obvious choice for kitchens, but the straight lines and harsh corners in some geometrics are starting to dwindle,” she says. “Instead, look for geometrics with softer lines.”

3. Metallics

Another trend on its way out? Metallics. Instead of shiny and brassy, many homeowners are opting for wallpaper that is more muted and understated,” Hobbs says.
