This Dull-and-Dated Townhouse Makeover Really Proves The Power of Paint

"My home is in a neighborhood that I was living in and I was wanting to downsize," explains the homeowner, Melinda. "I saw the condo and thought, 'If it goes on the market, I’m making an offer.' The next week, a for-sale sign was posted, I made and offer and voilà, it’s mine." She worked with Leigh Robinson and Jamie Tronzo of Maddox & Rose to transform the formerly dark, closed-in space.

“This old world/new look townhome rehaul was a large renovation in a small space,” explains the designers behind the company Maddox & Rose. “Most everything was replaced besides kitchen cabinets, which we threw some beautiful sage paint on to transform in seconds, and selected furniture items that had personal meaning. Our client was reluctant to change but loved intentional design, wanting only items that told a story or had a story.”

Leigh Robinson and Jamie Tronzo of Maddox & Rose continue describing this home’s remodel: “We loved mixing new with old and finding updates that had meaning, for example, selecting a Magnolia home paint color named ‘Gathering.’ Her main purpose of the renovation was to create a welcoming space to gather and host, as she entered a new era in her life of retirement. With the removal of the center wall separating her kitchen from her living and dining space, and replacing the bland carpet with natural color floors, it created one continuous open space perfect for entertaining!”

“I love that my condo is free-standing; it’s like a little brick house,” explains Melinda, the homeowner. “My home is in a neighborhood that I was living in and I was wanting to downsize. As I travel a good bit for work, I’ve not entertained a lot yet, but I did have twenty-six women over from my church and the new space was great! ”

Proudest DIY: I painted a piece of furniture (cabinet) with paint that matches the newly painted cabinets. Did I mention I’ve never painted anything before?
