Kitchen Before & After: A Magical Mosaic Backsplash

Kitchen Before & After: A Magical Mosaic Backsplash

When the new owners moved into this house, they found the kitchen to be a little bit sad. The colors were pretty, and everything was simple and clean, but the design of the kitchen was unimaginative, so they worked with a local interior designer to improve the layout and brighten up the space.

But the most memorable part of the new kitchen happened almost by accident. Their designer, Tracey Stephens, was inspired by a broken plate that the owner discovered when unpacking. Take a look to see one of the most creative remodel elements we've ever seen!

First things first: the layout of the kitchen is much better. There's more cabinet space, and they gained a dishwasher. Plus, the color scheme is much brighter and more welcoming.

But take a look behind the stove at our favorite part of this kitchen remodel.

See now how the mosaic backsplash was inspired by a broken dish? In a world full of subway and penny tiles, this combination of broken dishware and tile mosaic is a welcome change of pace. We'd love to know which piece was the inspiration for the mosaic.

We also love this little teacup that was donated by a friend which became a pencil holder on one of the side counters.

See more of the remodel on Houzz, and visit Tracey Stephens' website.
