We added storage back where we could with a vertical wine rack, open shelves around the existing chimney flue (painted red), and a recipe book cabinet (with glass doors). We also re-purposed the existing radiator cover boxes (as the cracked radiators had to be removed), using the stamped aluminum material of the boxes as upper cabinet door panels.
What’s the story of your kitchen?
Our newly purchased 1900’s Victorian home needed a complete kitchen overhaul from the start. We chose ebony stained oak floors, painted maple cabinets, butcher block tops, chalkboard (paint) back splashes, an IKEA sink, and stainless appliances to bridge a modern feel with the traditional style of the house.
What is your favorite meal to cook here?
We enjoy a weekly ‘new recipe’ dinner – cracking open a bottle of wine and experimenting with a new dish, often a recipe copied from a kitchn website post or clipped from a magazine.
