I Tried Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Limited-Edition Custom Cereal, and It Was Not What I Expected
When it comes to breakfast, cereal is an option that rarely ever disappoints. Growing up, I’d alternate between my top three — and I’m not the only one. Turns out, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce also have their own top-tier rotation. After revealing their top three cereals on their New Heights podcast last year, the Kelce brothers and General Mills created the new Kelce Mix Cereal, a combination of their three favorites: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Reese’s Puffs.
Now, my all-time favorite cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Reese’s Puffs comes in a close second, so I jumped at the chance to try it. We’ve all seen the Kelce family recently solidified their place in the food world zeitgeist with deals from Campbell to Lindt to Walmart. But this latest collaboration was the first one I really wanted to try.
My Honest Review
Overall, the cereal was good! I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10. But I had to deduct points for two main factors: The peanut butter of Reese’s Puffs was a bit stronger than the other two cereals, and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch lost some of its cinnadust (cinnamon and sugar). Mixing and packaging all the cereals together meant the individual flavors were not as strong.
Also, whenever I’ve eaten the Lucky Charms, I’ve wanted more marshmallow charms. Here, the marshmallow flavor was the biggest flavor profile difference compared with the grain of the other two cereals, so it was fun to get those sweet pops of flavor and the different textures.
I want to try mixing each cereal — but pouring a third of each cereal from their own boxes so that the individual flavors come through differently. If you can’t get a box, I think it’s worth trying to mix your own! Having a bowl of the Kelce Mix Cereal as a midnight snack or dinner honestly sounds amazing.
You can find this limited-edition Kelce Mix cereal and the Kelces’ Pick collectible boxes — special boxes with the brothers on the front of their top faves including Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Reese’s Puffs — on shelves at nationwide beginning this month.
For fans of the “New Heights” podcast, there’s even a limited-edition box that’s available exclusively on Walmart.com on Sept. 28.
