Julia Child’s House in France Is for Sale
If you’re a Francophile and an admirer of Julia Child, and happen to have some spare cash on hand for a second home in France, then here is the dreamiest opportunity of a lifetime: La Pitchoune, Julia Child’s home in Provence, is up for sale.
Located north of Cannes in the southern part of France, this is the home Julia built on property owned by her collaborator, Simca Beck. It passed into the hands of Kathie Alex, an American who remodeled the house and taught cooking classes there. Her remodels left one thing untouched, however: the kitchen, which is just as Julia left it — with the exception of the La Cornue stove, which now belongs to food writer Patricia Wells.
The house is for sale for about $880,000 — quite the catch for someone who loves Provence (who doesn’t?) and Julia Child’s legacy.
The story below is very much worth a read for the history behind the home, and for the great slideshow of photographs.
