The New Julia Child Series on HBO Max Is Destined to Be Our Next Big Binge Watch
The life of Julia Child has long been an inspiration to many — from aspiring chefs to female trailblazers. The fascinating life of Julia has influenced documentaries, books, and even movies (Meryl Streep’s performance in 2009’s Julie & Julia is still top-tier!). There’s even a charitable foundation created in her honor. The latest tribute to Julia, however, will be as accessible as a nearby television.
Beginning March 31, HBO Max will be premiering a series in honor of Julia Child — aptly named Julia — and if you’re a fan of JC, the new on-set photos prove you’ll want to tune in. The new series will cover everything from her series The French Chef that defined the entire genre of cooking programming, to her life and career both in and out of the kitchen.
Sarah Lancashire will play Julia and David Hyde Pierce will play her husband, Paul Child, with other cast including Bebe Neuwirth, Fran Kranz, Fiona Glascott, and Brittany Bradford.
“Through Julia’s life and her singular joie de vivre, the series explores a pivotal time in American history — the emergence of public television as a new social institution, feminism and the women’s movement, the nature of celebrity and America’s cultural evolution,” reads the official HBO Max press release about the series. “At its heart, the series is a portrait of a loving marriage with a shifting power dynamic.”
The first three episodes of Julia will premiere on HBO Max on March 31 with following episodes airing weekly through May 5.
