Before I took on the title of News & Culture Editor for Kitchn (and also before I dubbed myself as the Queen of Nostalgic Things), there’s one title that I carried with me from the late ’90s to present day: *NSYNC super-fan. Though I never required anyone to call me that in public, I — along with my older sister — considered myself to be a true and loyal fan of what I note to be one of the top two best pop culture boy bands in the world (and no, they’re not number two).

Though my love for *NSYNC as a whole shows up in the way I still belt out hits like “Girlfriend,” “Gone,” and — of course — “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” I also love to see each of the members step out into their own solo endeavors. From highly celebrated music releases to showcasing their acting chops, there’s really nothing that the boys-turned-men of *NSYNC can’t do. And for Joey Fatone specifically, that includes tapping into the food industry for one very, very on-brand and deliciously awesome collaboration with popular sandwich and pizza shop, Schlotzsky’s.

Although Joey tapped into the food world back in 2017 with the debut of his Orlando, Florida-based food truck Fat Ones — which serves up both unique and tasty hot dogs as well as Italian ice — his new partnership with Schlotzsky’s sees the pop icon serving up something a little different: Calzones.

In promotion of the new launch, Joey — who for the time being is aptly being referred to as Joey Calzone on social media — took some time to chat with Kitchn about how his Italian upbringing spearheaded his love for calzones, the special calzone on the menu named after him, his favorite quick and easy Italian meal, what to expect next from Fat Ones, and so much more.
