If you spent the first weekend of the new year trying to shut out all information from the outside world, you missed a lot of inconsequential happenings (see: bean dad), but you also missed the debut of Joanna Gaines’s new television show. The Fixer Upper star and maven of all things Magnolia debuted two episodes of her new Food Network cooking show, Magnolia Table (and a behind-the-scenes special on how they made it), on Saturday. “There were plenty of awkward moments,” she shared on a tweet announcing the premiere.

The show’s title, as Eater points out, is a nod to the star’s Waco, Texas, restaurant and her best-selling cookbooks, so it gives a lot of hints at what viewers can expect from the show. The first episode opens with recipes “that are special to me and my family,” Gaines says on her blog, featuring a Lebanese salad, white bean hummus, baklava, and a version of fatayar — meat pies — all from her cookbooks. In this version of fatayar, she rolls up cheddar cheese and frozen hash browns in Pillsbury biscuit dough. In the second episode, which was holiday-themed, Gaines discusses how “we all have those meals that remind us of our favorite time of year.” Then goes on to create an autumnal feast with a Friendsgiving casserole of shredded chicken and bread in cream, cranberry sauce, green beans almondine, mashed potatoes, and a cherry-almond crisp.

The show debuted on Food Network this weekend, but the entire season also went live on Discovery Plus for subscribers to the streaming service. But really, it seems this is all just a bit of prep for later this month, when the Magnolia Network launches: a channel that Joanna and Chip Gaines are set to launch with the Discovery Network.
