Joanna Gaines has become a household name when it comes to home design. The mogul gained popularity renovating houses on her hit HGTV show, Fixer Upper, with husband Chip Gaines. She’s since launched her own lifestyle brand, multiple award-winning cookbooks, and own television network. With so many different projects, naturally we were curious about her net worth.

What is Joanna Gaines’ net worth?

In 2024, her net worth was estimated to be $50 million collectively with her husband, Chip, according to Parade. The majority of their wealth comes from Fixer Upper and the massive Magnolia empire they’ve since created. Joanna also has the successful Hearth & Hand with Magnolia line of home decor and kitchen products at Target, and her wallpaper is sold at Anthropologie. The couple also have a few vacation rental properties in Texas (more info on how to book one here).

She started from humble beginnings and isn’t originally from Texas.

Joanna wasn’t always a multimillionaire. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, and her family later moved to Austin, finally settling down in Waco when she was in her junior year of high school. Waco is where she later met Chip, and where the two currently reside with their five children. Funnily enough, both attended Baylor University but never ran into each other until after graduation when Chip visited her dad’s auto shop due to car trouble.

Chip had an existing renovation business, and Joanna came on board to do the designing. The couple flipped their first house together a month after marrying in 2003. Business was rocky at the start. During the housing crisis, they were worried that they weren’t going to make it, at one point solely relying on the money Chip had in his pocket to pay the bills.

Her blog got them recognized.

Joanna decided to start a blog soon after joining forces with Chip and began sharing the work they were doing. It caught the attention of an executive at a TV production company who suggested they send in a tape for a potential show. HGTV happened to see the clip and quickly signed the couple on for a show.

She gained recognition from Fixer Upper

Fixer Upper premiered on HGTV in 2013 and ran until 2018. Despite not having any formal training, Chip’s stunning craftsmanship and Joanna’s signature “modern farmhouse” design resulted in the show skyrocketing in popularity. Audience members loved their work, relationship, and dynamic. Roughly, the couple made $30,000 per episode. They’ve since revived the show on their own channel, The Magnolia Network, retitling it Fixer Upper: Welcome Home

The Magnolia brand name was inspired by one of Joanna and Chip’s first dates.

Early on in their relationship, Chip climbed a magnolia tree and gave Joanna a blossom while on a date. The sweet moment stuck and became inspiration for the Magnolia brand name. Today, there are a multitude of businesses under the Magnolia empire including: The Magnolia Journal magazine which launched in 2015, The Magnolia Network, which they launched in 2020, and the Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas, which the couple first opened the same year they flipped their first house together. The Magnolia Market has since expanded and features multiple businesses including the Magnolia Press coffee shop, the Magnolia Table restaurant, the Little Shop on Bosque, and the Shops at the Silos
