There's nothing we love more than a good DIY project in the kitchen. James and Julie's DIY is a bit more than just a project &mdash we're talkin' their entire kitchen. They didn't exactly plan to redo the entire kitchen, it began as trying to fix a faulty appliance and blossomed into quite the project. Obviously, the outcome is inspiring and insightful.

James and Julie planned to fix a leaking dishwasher and discovered the water had leaked beneath the laminate flooring and caused some major problems. That discovery turned out to be a blessing in disguise and they definitely came out on top.

During the renovation, they discovered the original flooring was in great condition. While they were working on restoring the floor, the cabinets got damaged and they needed an easy and low cost solution to stay within their budget. They chose to go with IKEA cabinets and had the door panels custom built to achieve the look they wanted.

Besides the cabinets themselves, we love that the handles mimic the slim rectangular shape that is found throughout the kitchen, specifically in the cabinets, backsplash, artwork, rug and bookcase. We love when homeowners pay attention to even the tiniest of details in a kitchen renovation.

We also really love the color scheme. It's a darker kitchen, but the shiny appliances and bright white cabinets help to brighten the space.
