Growing up, there were a few rappers that I would listen to incessantly: Jay Z, OutKast, Missy Elliott, and Jadakiss. While this assortment may seem random, it was all a result of time spent with my father. On weekend mornings while staying with my father, we would bond over our love of music, donuts, and coffee. That father/son time was invaluable, so it feels full circle to see rapper Jadakiss announce a new business venture with his father and son. What’s even better is that it’s rooted in one of the things my father and I loved most — coffee.

Kiss Cafe is the families’ new and exciting foray into the coffee industry and their first release, Beijo, is named after the Portuguese word for kiss. (An ideal name if you ask me!)Sourced from Central America, the medium-dark Arabica blend is tailor-made for coffee lovers. Available in whole bean or ground options and priced at $14.99, the brand sells exclusively online and plans to announce its retail partners within the coming months. Designed to be enjoyed as a drip brew, cold brew, or a French press, you get to determine how you want to jumpstart your day.

“This coffee is for all coffee lovers — no specific age or background or knowledge,” the hip-hop veteran said of the new brand. “Coffee is a universal and a personal thing. Everyone enjoys it differently. And we’re here to help them do that.”

While many celebrities are criticized for starting businesses that appear to be inauthentic and just a quick “cash grab,” coffee has actually been an integral part of Jadakiss’ family for generations. His father, Bob Phillips, served as CEO of Caturra Corp — a company involved in the trade of green coffees from around the world. Likewise, Jadakiss’ son, Jaewon Phillips, followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and entered the coffee industry in 2018.
