When fall rolls around, the bottles of wine seem to come out a little more frequently. Usually, we like to have plenty of bottles of whites or reds for when family or friends show up during the busy holiday season. That said, we could all use a new way to enjoy that one bottle of red wine we’ve kept on the bar cart for months.

The answer is this Italian-inspired way of enjoying red wine that’s both easy to make and festive! The drink in question is a simple combination of red wine and ginger ale, shared in a TikTok video from thebellobros. The mix of the two drinks creates what is known to some as an Italian wine spritzer, similar to the Spanish tinto de verano or a kalimotxo.

In the comments under the video, users exclaim their love for this drink combo, saying that they often enjoyed the combination when they were younger, presumably in Europe, where the legal drinking age is lower than that of the United States. One commenter also says that this is a great way to make bad-tasting or cheap wine taste much better!

Why We Love the Italian Wine Spritzer

One of the main reasons we love this simple drink hack is that it’s a great way to get people who don’t love red wine to try it out in a new way, and the holidays are a great time to do just that. In fact, you could even serve this chilled in a large pitcher or punch bowl with a few cranberries and orange slices.

Additionally, I love this hack because it also serves frequent red wine drinkers, too! If you have a red wine that was gifted to you, for example, but it’s not quite your favorite, you can give it a new life by mixing it with ginger ale — it’s a perfect drink to enjoy on an evening alone reading a book or enjoying your favorite show.

We recommend trying out this drink combo at your next Friendsgiving or even just an evening in with friends and family.
