Is Costco Open on Labor Day?

Costco is the one store that has it all. An entire rotisserie chicken for under $5? Costco has it. A 30-pack of toilet paper? Costco has that, too. A three-piece sectional sofa with an ottoman? Vacation packages? Prescription eyeglasses? Look no further than Costco. 

For many people, Costco’s sprawling warehouse is a one-stop shop where you can stock up on groceries, clothing, and just about anything and everything your household may need. With Labor Day fast approaching, chances are you’ve shopped your list for all of the Costco items you’ll need to entertain your guests or host an epic barbecue. Patio furniture? Check. Stainless steel gas grill? Check. A four-count picnic pack of ketchup, mustard, and relish? Check. But what if you need something on the holiday itself?

Sorry, folks: Costco is not open on Labor Day. 

While the big-box retailer is open nearly every day, there are seven days each year that Costco remains closed, and employees have the day off. Each of those days is a national holiday, and they are as follows:

• New Year’s Day
• Easter Sunday
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day

This year, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 4, which means that if you have any last-minute Costco shopping to attend to, you’ll want to be sure to pop into the store over the weekend prior to the holiday, or even the week before. Keep in mind that other Costco shoppers are all in the same boat, so you may want to brace yourself for longer lines than usual.

Fortunately, plenty of other grocery stores will be open on Labor Day, so you’ll be able to pick up any items you may need in the eleventh hour. Just remember to pick up all of your furniture, grilling equipment, and picnic pack of condiments at Costco well in advance.
