Where: Los Angeles, California
Rent or Own? Rent

Faith Blakeney is quite the style maven. She puts together eclectic homes with a sense of whimsy, color, and humor — qualities definitely on display in her own small kitchen, which is as joyful and exuberant as she is. The bright white walls provide the perfect backdrop to her daughter’s artwork, as well as Faith’s favorite found objects and collectibles. Let’s step inside for a peek, shall we?

Faith’s Kitchen Story

Faith has lived in this home for about four years, and her kitchen is well-loved and frequently used. It’s small, but has plenty of natural light, which makes it a primo spot for watching the wild technicolor sunsets of Los Angeles. The shelving is typical for a 1940s-style rental, but after applying a fresh coat of off-white paint, Faith’s treasures —including her daughter’s artwork — really pop.

When asked about an inspiration for her kitchen and cooking style, Faith responded:

My mom has been a huge inspiration in my kitchen culture. She is an absolute whiz in the kitchen. She cooks foods of all ethnicities, crazy fusions and her creations know no limits. The one ingredient she always uses for every meal is tons of love. I try to bring that into my kitchen, too — it’s the one thing we all need in our kitchen!

Faith’s Cooking Story

Faith’s approach to cooking is colorful, free-spirited, organic, international and experimental. The menu when I visited included a fresh acai smoothie breakfast just finished and a beautiful chicken salad being made for lunch. Faith likes to include her daughter, Noa, in her cooking process, and often works around her food preferences. (Noa was a vegetarian for many years so Faith cooked very little meat during that time.)

Much of Faith’s cooking is influenced by her time living in Italy. She and her sister lived in Florence for seven years! For this home cook, that means loads of fresh, high quality ingredients and very little treatment. Faith makes a lot of pasta with local produce and cheeses, sauces made with Italian anchovies and other international delights. She shops at farmers markets and Trader Joe’s and, because she travels often, often picks up edible souvenirs to work into home cooked meals.
