Ina Garten Is Bringing Back This 166-Year-Old Drinkware Trend With Her Famous Cranberry Martinis
Cooking tutorials helped build community during quarantine since people couldn’t safely leave their homes. And we all remember it like it was yesterday, scrolling on Instagram and stumbling upon Ina Garten’s humongous (and a tad bit unhinged) mega-cosmo martini. She famously remarked in her video, “During a crisis, cocktail hour can be any hour.”
Now, the Barefoot Contessa host is entering the chat with another trendy drink — and her famous cocktail recipe is perfect for the holidays.
A few days ago, The New York Times posted a tutorial for a cranberry martini recipe that Garten shared with the outlet. The nice part? Unlike her popular cosmopolitan, this libation doesn’t require an extra-large cocktail glass. Instead, a humble Mason jar with a mesh lid will do the trick.
In the tutorial, a creator from the publication makes Garten’s famous cranberry martini by pouring cranberry juice, vodka, triple sec, and ice in a large cocktail shaker. (This is where the ingenius hack comes in; if you don’t have a cocktail shaker at home, you can use a Mason jar!) Then, to finish, garnish the martini with rehydrated cranberries for a festive garnish.
In the clip, the Mason jar that serves as a cocktail shaker has a mesh lid, making it easy to pour your drink. While this mesh Mason jar lid isn’t necessary to complete the hack, it can be helpful if you don’t want to worry about the ice falling into your martini.
The nice part is that if you plan on making Garten’s cranberry martinis for a crowd this holiday season, you can use a 64-ounce Mason jar paired with a mesh lid to pour cocktails for all of your guests. Cheers!
