Our Readers Share Their 10 Favorite Recipes from Ina Garten’s “Barefoot Contessa at Home”
For the month of April, Kitchn’s Cookbook Club worked its way through Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa at Home. We ate delicious lemon yogurt cake, and made easy pesto sandwiches (and we talked about it in our Facebook group). And to wrap up the month, we’ve rounded up some of the best recipes to make from this Ina classic.
Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa at Home is Kitchn’s April pick for our Cookbook Club. See how you can participate here.
1. Lemon Fusilli with Arugula
When I announced on Facebook that Barefoot Contessa at Home was our April cookbook club selection, a few people jumped into the comments and said that this recipe was a must-make. And they weren’t lying! The secret is in the lemon-cream sauce.

2. Tomato, Mozzarella & Pesto Panini
If you needed an excuse to buy a panini press, here it is. This sandwich was a hit in our Facebook group — in part, I think, because it’s just so easy and satisfying to make.
3. Beatty’s Chocolate Cake
This is one of Ina’s most famous recipes, and when we tested it out against other chocolate cakes, it won by a landslide. Our readers agree. The recipe is unfussy, and the addition of coffee adds depth to the cake.

4. Chicken Piccata
A bunch of people in our Facebook group made this recipe. “I really liked the breading and cooking method which gave it a nice brown crust,” said Karine Finken. A couple people also recommended adding capers to the final dish.
5. Mustard-Roasted Potatoes
These potatoes are a perfect side dish to, well, pretty much anything. Stacey Rittenberg said they were “fabulous,” and Elizabeth Carder-Thompson said they were a perfect match for her ground chicken burgers.

6. Portobello Mushroom Lasagna
This lasagna recipe is just… so satisfying. Cookbook Club-er Dina Sawyer Schlack, made the recipe last month and said it was “oh so good.” Who doesn’t love pasta, and mushrooms, and béchamel?
7. Coconut Cake
Just like Ina’s chocolate cake, this coconut cake is also quite popular. Jenna Beall Mueller made the cake in April and said “even though I over-baked the cakes, it was still a perfect Easter dessert!”
8. Fresh Whiskey Sours
Not surprisingly, many people were fans of Ina’s whiskey sours. Instead of using a mix to make this drink, she uses a combination of lemon and lime juice, plus a simple sugar syrup.
9. Old-Fashioned Potato Salad
Another popular potato dish from Barefoot Contessa at Home is her old-fashioned potato salad. Karine Finken said “so far my favorite recipe from her book and my husband agreed. I used wine instead of milk and the flavor was good with the dill and mustard, not bland at all.”
10. Lemon Yogurt Cake
I think it’s safe to say that this was the most popular recipe from the cookbook this month. “A bright spot in a scary time,” Elizabeth Carder-Thompson explained. Others noticed that this recipe tasted similar to the wildly-popular Starbucks lemon loaf.
