Because social distancing is making us feel, well, socially distant, we’ve made it a point to check in on our loved ones even more frequently than usual. Whether that means making impromptu phone calls over morning coffee, scheduling FaceTime lunch dates, or hosting virtual happy hours with family and friends, we’re all doing the best we can to feel connected — something we need now more than ever.

Speaking of loved ones, has anyone checked on national treasures Ina and Jeffrey?! Don’t worry, we did! Thanks to Instagram we determined that our favorite couple is safe and sound in the comforts of their home, being model quarantine citizens of course.

The duo is “hunkering down,” treating themselves to glorious breakfast items like these overnight Belgian waffles topped with bananas and maple syrup (from her Make It Ahead cookbook), a dish I could only wish someone might prepare for me in quarantine.

We’re also deeply, deeply comforted by the fact that Ina didn’t let COVID-19 get in the way of her St. Patrick’s Day festivities. The celebration took place in the comfort and safety of her own home in the form of these divine-looking Irish scones with jam and cream. (She hints that these scones, made with pantry staples, are from her new cookbook, Modern Comfort Food, set to come out October 2020.)

Ever the positive force, Ina wished her followers a Happy St. Patrick’s Day because the show must go on. “In the middle of a crisis, celebrating traditions and staying connected give us a sense of much-needed normalcy,” she shares. Ina also offers a few suggestions for how to maintain that sense of normalcy: “Have lunch with a friend over FaceTime or bake something!” Even while social distancing, Ina can’t stay away from her friends or out of the kitchen.

In her latest Instagram, Ina puts into words the way that we’re all feeling right now (anxious), offering comfort in a way that only she can: “The one thing we CAN do, is cook for the people we love who are sheltered in place with us.” She also generously offers to come up with delicious recipes that you can make with ingredients in your pantry and fridge. As usual, Ina is the light that we need right now.

On that note, Ina, can we please FaceTime during lunch this week??
