These IKEA Wooden Bowls Just Got Hacked into a Super Sleek-Looking Planter
If you love a good IKEA hack as much as you love decorating for the holidays, then this hack from @crack_the_shutters, aka Jen, will make you happy.
Jen created a super modern planter using two IKEA bowls that could be the star of a holiday table, either as a pedestal to place your bread bowl or as the base to your centerpiece. “A mini ‘done in a few hours’ IKEA hack,” Jen captioned her Oct. 21 DIY. And her video was later shared by the @IKEAHackersOfficial Instagram page because it’s that good.
To begin, you’ll need two BLANDA MATT wooden bowls from IKEA, one in the 28 cm size and the other in the 20 cm size. Then, choose a paint color that suits your fancy — Jen used a brush-on matte black paint by Rust-Oleum, but you can use any color and any finish.
When the paint is dry, use a strong adhesive to stick the two bottoms of the bowls together. Jen used No More Nails Invisible Clear Glue for this step. Then, “make yourself a brew and admire your new styling accessory,” Jen wrote in her caption.
Because this DIY planter is made from wooden bowls, make sure that your potted plant is in a waterproof container with drainage before you place it into the planter, and you can line the planter with plastic to protect your paint from water damage. Or, take an even easier route and go faux with your plants!
This IKEA hack is endlessly customizable, from the bowl sizes to the paint color to what you decide to put inside your brand new pedestal planter. And there’s nothing more satisfying than when your guests ask you where you got your magnificent centerpiece from. You get to tell them “I made it.”
