Dunking a cookie in a cold glass of milk is one of life’s greatest pleasures. The crispy cookie slightly softens as it absorbs the milk, while the milk takes on the cookie’s flavor. When you’re done eating your cookie (or, who are we kidding, a few cookies) you get to wash it down with that sweet glass of milk — it’s basically a two-for-one deal.

Kitchn contributor Tessa Huff played off this nostalgic treat and transformed it into a whimsical three-layer cake. Now you can have your milk and cookies (cake) and eat it, too.

This recipe has four separate components that need to be built before you can assemble the cake — baking the three vanilla cake layers, mixing the cookie dough filling, making the milk soak, and whipping the vanilla frosting — so make sure you leave yourself enough time to dedicate to this baking project.

Once you have all the components in place, you brush the milk soak on the top of each cake layer before adding the cookie dough filling and covering the cake with the frosting.

Tessa decorated her cake simply with mini chocolate chips, which I think looks lovely and subtly hints at the chocolate chip cookie theme, but feel free to decorate however you’d like! Just be sure to pour yourself a glass of cold milk when you sit down with a slice.
