Q: Recently, my doctor asked me to restrict my diet in a number of ways. The full list of banned foods includes dairy, refined sugar, chocolate, spinach, tomatoes, spicy foods, hot drinks/foods (e.g. soups), nuts, sesame seeds, coconut, avocado, kiwi, and shellfish. I have been on this diet for 2 weeks and must continue for another month at least.
I am struggling with the restrictions because my family is South Asian and we typically eat spicy foods daily. When I'm not eating Asian food, my diet consists of a lot of tomatoes and spinach-based foods. I've switched to soymilk and because I want to continue eating healthy, have been eating a lot of fruits and veggies. But I find that without the spiciness, the food I make lacks flavor. I don't know what I can make to fit into my diet restrictions but also add flavor. I'm seeking more advice than specific recipes, though the latter would be great too.
