I Tried Air Fryer Avocado Fries — I Never Knew Avocado Could Be So Crispy
Would we have as many internet food trends as we do now if it weren’t for avocados? The creamy, green fruit makes a frequent appearance in social media concoctions. This time it was in the form of avocado fries. As a potato enthusiast, I didn’t have high hopes — but cooking is about experimenting and finding new, fun ways to use your favorite ingredients. These avocado fries take on their extra-crunchy texture from a triple coating of milk and breading, and while they might not be a true replacement for fries, they’re still a tasty snack.

How to Make Avocado Fries
To start things off, slice open your ripe avocados, pit them, and cut them into slices. Season with kosher salt (the original recipe didn’t call for them to be seasoned, although you’ll thank me later!). It’s important not to slice the avocado too thin — otherwise, they may break apart when coating them.
Next, grab a few bowls to create your breading station. You’ll need milk, flour, and panko breadcrumbs seasoned with everything bagel seasoning. Once you have everything ready to go, dip your avocado into the milk first and then the flour. Repeat this step two times. Then, dip the avocado slices into the milk one final time and roll them around in the seasoned panko breadcrumbs. Finally, place the breaded avocado into the air fryer in a single layer and cook for 15 minutes at 400°F, flipping after the first 10 minutes.

My Honest Review of Avocado Fries
Let’s be honest: When you’re in the mood for fries, potatoes are probably the first thing on your mind. Although these avocado fries would never come in between me and the beloved potato, they certainly have a place on my plate. The first thing that I noticed about these fries was that they’re incredibly crunchy; I would definitely credit this to the triple-breading action. Their crisp exterior is a nice contrast to the creamy interior, making them a fun-to-eat snack. Plus, there’s no need for deep-frying, thanks to the trusty air fryer.
I also noticed that they didn’t have much flavor, even though I added salt and everything bagel seasoning. If you’re serving them as the main attraction, consider including a flavorful dipping sauce. I think plain sliced avocados will continue to satisfy my avo cravings on a day-to-day basis, but I enjoyed trying out this creative dish; it’s a worthy project when you want to add some fun texture to the mix.
My #1 Tip for Making Avocado Fries
I wouldn’t recommend serving avocado fries on their own — rather, use them as a way to upgrade your meal. Try topping a burger or sandwich with some crispy avocado slices. Or serve on the side with eggs, toast, and bacon for a next-level breakfast. They’d also be a fun snack served with Sriracha mayo or your favorite flavorful condiment.
