This month we’ve asked a few friends of The Kitchn to share how they organize areas in their kitchen. Today Tracy Benjamin of Shutterbean lets us in on the secret to her gorgeously organized home pantry. (Hint: It’s all about knowing what you have and doing maintenance!)

How do you keep this area organized?

I keep the area organized by sorting through it (almost) every Sunday when I do my Meal Prep for the week. I don’t make a grocery list without checking what’s in my pantry first. There’s nothing I hate more than buying things I already have.

What organizing trick or tool was a game-changer for you?

Putting like items in a clear bin and labeling each bin with washi tape. That way I can pull out a whole bin of baking stuff if I’m baking and I know what goes where when I have to put it back. It’s so helpful when I have someone else in the kitchen with me because I can point them to the bin to pull out/put back.

How often do you clean or reorganize this space?

I do maintenance every few months. I’ve found that when everything has a place, it’s easier for me to keep things organized. I spend a great deal of time figuring out how to best use my pantry. I like to try out new ways of organizing every year because I feel like my needs always change. After living with an organizing scheme I created, there’s always room to improve something!
