How a Home Chef Gets Gluten-Free Family Meals on the Table Fast
Lindsay Freedman is a mom of two, a photographer, the creator of The Toasted Pine Nut, and a home cook in Orange County, CA. Translation: She’s super busy. She’s making it work though and has added an extra tool to her arsenal this fall: Shipt, a same-day grocery delivery service. We asked Lindsay to take Shipt for a spin to see how it could make mealtimes easier for her and her family. Since her family is gluten-free, we were especially curious to find out if Shipt would be a hit or not for her. (Spoiler: It was!)
The nice thing about Shipt is that once you place your order, you’re assigned a personal shopper who communicates via text while shopping and gets your groceries to your door in as little as an hour. You can make special requests (ripe bananas, please), add last-minute items (we forgot the hummus), and even shop from multiple stores, all in the same app.
“I loved the text messages from my shopper,” Lindsay says. “She let me know if anything was out of stock and I had the option to pick a replacement. I felt like we were in the store together.” Lindsay wanted to make a quick lunch for her two boys during a break from virtual school, and everyone in her family loves cheese, so she ordered a bunch of ingredients to make sheet pan nachos loaded with shredded cheddar and crumbled queso fresco.
Her order included everything they needed, and her favorite item was the Siete chips, one of our editors’ favorite snacks. “They’re grain-free but hold up like a traditional chip, making them perfect for dipping or making nachos.” Lindsay also loved that Shipt gave her access to everything on her list (even her gluten-free specialty items), including lots of fresh produce, so she was able to sneak some fresh veggies into her nachos.
Get Everything on Your List, Every Time
This biggest grocery shopping hurdle for Lindsay (and maybe 99 percent of us) is getting home, unpacking her haul, and realizing she forgot a certain item. Shipt took a lot of that stress out of shopping for her, and yes, she got everything on her list. Not having to shop with two kids in tow was also a definite plus.
Now, Lindsay is a big fan of Shipt. “Grocery delivery is a must. Parents have so much on their plates nowadays that we need to take advantage of any help we can get! Having someone else shop my grocery list and deliver it to me so I can spend my time elsewhere is a godsend.”
