Q: How do you clean and season a self-basting cast iron lid? Our pan is in great shape, but the lid is full of sticky cooked-on gunk, and the tips of the little spikes are totally unseasoned.

What can we do to get it back in good shape and then maintain it?

Editor: Have you tried soaking it in some warm water to loosen the gunk first? I would then try scrubbing it with a soft brush or perhaps even an extra toothbrush.

Readers, do you know how to safely clean and season all the little spikes on a self-basting cast iron lid?
