While a lot of the foods we associate with winter tend to be comforting to eat — the endless parade of soups and stews, and even some of the drinks like apple cider and hot chocolate — they also tend to be extremely brown. It’s up to us to add a little festivity to winter and, reports People, the internet’s latest cool trend shows off an explosively awesome way to bring that sense of fun to the frigid-weather food selection: hot chocolate bombs.

There’s nothing dangerous about these bombs — they’re simply chocolate spheres filled with everything you need to make a delicious hot chocolate. That means they’ve got hot cocoa powder, marshmallows, and maybe even a cool flavoring element. You put them in the cup, add some warm milk, give it a stir, and BOOM — you’ve got your flavor explosion — and a mug full of hot chocolate. The chocolate shell melts away, the cocoa powder mixes with the milk, and the marshmallows float to the top.

Best of all, you can totally make them yourself. It takes a little bit of work, but if you’re looking for a cool project for an amazing holiday gift, Walmart sells nifty silicone molds that work to shape the outsides. Sheri Wilson, the creator behind that stunning Instagram video you see above, also says she found the molds at NY Cake.

So, to make the bombs, you simply temper the chocolate and put it into the molds. Once that hardens, you add the hot chocolate ingredients to one side, re-melt the edges of the half-spheres, and press them together. Then comes the fun part: decorating the outside. Using sprinkles, candies, and drips of more chocolate, this allows you to really add the excitement to the gift — turning them into Santa faces, ornaments, or snowman heads.

If that all seems like way more work than you are up for, thankfully lots of hot chocolate bombs are for sale, including at Costco.
