The Best, Easiest Way to Make Hot Chocolate Bombs at Home

Colder weather is back again, so chances are you’re on the hunt for something to keep you warm. While hearty meals like Texas chili and stuffed pepper soup definitely fit the bill, if your sweet tooth is calling out to you then hot chocolate and hot cocoa (yes, there is a difference between the two!) are probably at the top of your list. And rightfully so.

And, if you ask me, hot chocolate bombs are the best (and most fun!) way to enjoy homemade hot chocolate. That’s why, when @ruewanah posted these cute mini bombs on TikTok I immediately became obsessed with them. No, really.

In the original TikTok video, the Dallas recipe developer showcases their unique spin on the trend: a small cup made out of two types of chocolate, filled with hot cocoa mix, and topped with mini-marshmallows. The bomb also includes a peppermint stick to make dipping and handling extremely simple.

Now, if you’re like me, you’re probably wondering how did they make that? Well, apparently, so were many followers because just a day later @ruewenah posted the tutorial to make the bombs. And it’s actually quite simple.

To start, grab a small plastic cup (the ones that are just big enough for a shot) and cut a slit down the side. Tape it back shut, and pour in your melted chocolate of choice. Once the chocolate is set, you remove the tape and unmold it from the plastic cup. Fill the chocolate cup with hot cocoa powder, top with more melted chocolate, stick a candy cane in the middle to hold everything up, and, lastly, layer on mini marshmallows to give it the finish it truly deserves.

So, if you’re looking for a fun and delicious way to warm up this holiday season, try making these hot cocoa bombs and dipping them into some warm milk while binge-watching your favorite holiday movies. If you don’t happen to be a huge hot cocoa fan, though, these can also make incredible (and affordable!) gifts to divvy out to your loved ones or even work as great hostess gifts for all the holiday parties you’re planning to stop by this season.
