Homemade Ranch Is the Secret to These Honey Buffalo Wings
I’ll never turn down a tip or hack to make tasks faster or more convenient, but I always make my own salad dressing. Whipping up a quick vinaigrette takes a lot less time than one might expect, and bottled salad dressing just never seems to taste the way I want it to. I make salad dressing several times a week, but in all my years of whisking olive oil and vinegar, it somehow never occurred to me to make ranch dressing at home — until I read this recipe for honey Buffalo wings with homemade ranch from Damn Delicious.
Of course, you can use bottled ranch if you want to. If you have a brand of ranch you already like, it will save you time, but the author says this homemade version is “mind-blowing.” Besides, putting out a bowl of homemade ranch dressing will definitely impress your game-day friends, too.
Like most homemade dressings, this dipping sauce is very easy to make. You just have to whisk all the ingredients, including fresh herbs and buttermilk, in a bowl and refrigerate it until you’re ready to serve it. Buttermilk is always the ingredient that makes me have to go to the grocery store, because I never have it in the house unless I’m planning something special. But this homemade ranch is definitely special. And the recipe only calls for a bit of buttermilk, so if you buy some, you’ll have plenty leftover to make some really good homemade pancakes the next day.
The honey-Buffalo sauce is also special, in a not-just-the-traditional-vinegar-spicy kind of way. I love a traditional Buffalo wing, but a bit of honey gives these a sweetness that makes them especially surprising. It adds another dimension to the flavors, and it’s fantastic when dipped in cooling homemade Ranch dipping sauce.
