When I was growing up, one of my favorite snacks was Ritz crackers. I always kept that familiar red box on standby for when I needed something buttery, salty, crisp, and satisfying. And if I added in a bit of cheese or had one of my favorite dips handy? Sold!

Now, however, I try to eat more snacks that are homemade. And a recent recipe I’ve come across presents all that nostalgia in a simple homemade rendition: Food blogger Tracy of Served from Scratch has a really simple recipe for homemade Ritz Crackers. These crackers are easy to make and a perfect solution, whether you’re looking for a nostalgic snack or plotting finger foods for upcoming holiday entertaining.

The recipe involves basic pantry ingredients and begins with pulsing flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a food processor before adding butter, oil, and water. The resulting dough gets rolled out thin on a floured surface and cut into cracker shapes. If you want the crackers to have that real Ritz feel, though, be sure to make them nice and thin and poke holes in the cutouts. This will help them to cook evenly but also makes them extra fun for presentation.

As the last step, you’ll brush each with egg wash and bake on parchment paper at 400°F. Right after they’re pulled from the oven, brush once more with butter while still hot. And after they’re all cooled, you can pair them with your favorite dips or place them on a charcuterie plate. But honestly, the possibilities truly are endless, so go with whatever your heart desires!
