Monster Cookies

Of all the things I desire during this time of year, desserts are at the top of the list. Whether it’s seeing a pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving or a classic Southern buttermilk pie at the holiday office party, there never seems to be a lack of sweet options to indulge in. Despite all the seasonal dessert options available, however, to me, the most versatile is the cookie.

Think about it: You can make delicious chocolate chip or sugar cookie to leave for Santa during Christmas. For Thanksgiving, the thought of the joy people will get from biting into cinnamon sugar pie crust cookie is just as exciting. Or, maybe you have the homemade cookie recipe that everyone demands you bring to gatherings. Whatever it is, cookies are really the supreme option for dessert.

While all of these options sound delicious, what if I told you there was a simple hack to elevate any cookie recipe? Food blogger Sarah Fennel (@bromabakery) shared her tip, and I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before.

If you’re like me and love your cookies filled with sweets like M&M’s, Oreos, and white chocolate, elevating your cookie with mix-ins is simple. As Sarah recommends, after following your recipe for the cookies and right before baking, add more of the mix-in directly on top of the cookie and gently press it into the dough to ensure it is secure. The result is a cookie where you not only taste additional sweet pieces, but also see them front and center. (Because food is just as much about visual presentation as it is taste!)
