Anytime my mom asked me if I wanted mac and cheese for dinner, I always made her specify: Is it elbow macaroni, or the shapes? You know, the boxed mac and cheese with the fun shapes like Spongebob and dinosaurs? To me, the shaped pasta always made for the best mac and cheese, with each bite even more cheesy than the last. I still prefer it to this day, so you can only imagine my excitement when I recently found out that HomeGoods is selling a bag of fall-shaped pasta.

That’s right — HomeGoods might not be the first place you expect for groceries, but the store surprisingly has a variety of gourmet items, including fancy and fun shaped pastas. During the fall, HomeGoods puts out a selection of gourmet pasta, some in fun fall shapes, some in fun fall colors like black, orange, and purple. While it’s still unclear which pasta shapes and colors will be back on shelves this year, recent videos surfacing on Instagram show us that there’s at least one bag of shaped pasta, with yellow and orange shapes like pumpkins, spiders, and bats. While prices on the shaped pasta can vary, previous bags with pasta shapes have priced around $5.99, so you can expect for your fancy pasta to price at least under $10 a bag.

Now that you have a bag of festive Halloween pasta, you might as well go all in and make a macaroni and cheese — because you know I will. You can keep things simple and classic with this easy one-pot mac and cheese recipe or this five-ingredient stovetop mac and cheese. Then, of course, there’s always the option to really lean into the fall theme and make a creamy one-pot pumpkin pasta or a butternut squash mac. Whatever you decide, we have a feeling these pasta shapes are going to make weeknight dinners even more festive this Halloween season.
