The Teas We’re Drinking Right Now
In the last couple weeks I’ve been reunited with my love for hot tea. The second my winter jacket comes out of the closet, my tea supply demands celebrity status in the kitchen. I go through multiple cups of tea a day: Black in the morning, maybe something with ginger in the afternoon, and then a couple cups of sleepy chamomile to finish the day. Can you relate?
Here are a few teas that we’re drinking right now. Care to weigh in on your favorite teas of the moment?

Although I usually drink very straightforward black and green teas, I splurged last week on the Mariage Frères Wedding Impérial scented black tea. The wonderful flavors of chocolate and caramel work nicely with the Assam tea, adding sweet notes that even my non-tea drinking husband likes. This tea always puts me in the holiday mood, especially when it’s chilly outside.
When the Nutcracker Sweet black tea from Celestial Seasonings appears on store shelves mid-November, I scoop up as many boxes as I can reasonably justify buying. This subtly-spiced, not-too-sweet tea is what makes me feel like the holidays have truly arrived and having a cup first thing in the morning while still in my PJs gets me in the spirit like nothing else. This tea is what gets me through even the chilliest and cloudiest winter days.

I drink homemade ginger tea all the time, even when I’m not sick. The spicy brew, sweetened with honey and finished with a good squeeze of lemon, gets me through windy, cold days. I think it also helps keep my stomach calm, especially with all the rich holiday foods this time of year!
I’m normally a coffee drinker, but I’ve been trying to stick with tea in the afternoon. I really love Harney and Sons Mint Verbena tea! It’s super fresh and soothing….perfect for dreary winter days. I also just picked up a box of jasmine green tea from Trader Joe’s, which is a really nice change up from plain green tea.
Right now I’m hitting the new Celebration Tea from Harney and Sons pretty hard in the morning. It’s a black tea with fruit and nut flavors – perfect for this time of year. Not too strong.
In the afternoon my pick-me-up is jasmine pearl tea, brewed in this pot. I buy it from the bulk tea jars at my local coop, and once I figured out once and for all how how to brew green tea without it getting too bitter, it became my favorite. I also drink a lot of spiced masala chai — from tea bags, or made from scratch. In the evenings I’m drinking the comfort food equivalent in tea — a childhood favorite: Sleepytime from Celestial Seasonings, brewed hot and strong with lots of honey.
