What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? We needed more of everything – cabinets, counterspace and light. (We also needed a dishwasher to replace the cranky ’78 model – a.k.a. my husband.) Too cash-strapped to afford a designer, my husband put his engineering skills to work. continued

What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? (continued)
We were able to get more “space” by closing the door to the backyard which exited through the kitchen (and replacing it with french doors in our dining room). We freed up even more countertop area by installing a corner sink. Finally, to ensure that we didn’t lose any natural light, we installed glass block behind our stovetop where a view-less window was originally located.
What’s the story of your kitchen?
When we moved into our 1910 house, everything was miniature…the kitchen cabinets were actually bathroom cabinets, cookie sheets wouldn’t fit in the oven…we love to cook and knew that we would ultimately need to make some changes.
What is your favorite meal to cook here?
Having traveled to Morocco and loved our time there, we enjoy attempting to recreate the wonderful sights, smells and tastes of our trip! Whether whipping together a batch of preserved lemons, hunting down the best olives, visiting our local Halal butcher for the freshest lamb for tagines, or drizzling the last of our precious Argan oil over slow-roasted eggplant zaalouk, we have a had a great time test-driving the new kitchen.
