No, it's not made from black lemons. Black lemonade and other cold-pressed juices with an ebony hue are actually made with activated charcoal.
While the juices have been around for a while, they have been gaining in popularity recently as the next step in the juicing craze.
Buzzfeed did some investigating about what exactly adding activated charcoal is supposed to do. Long used in emergency rooms to treat alcohol poisoning, activated charcoal is heated with gas in order to "create internal pores, which makes it very absorbent." The idea being that the charcoal absorbs all the stuff in your system that shouldn't be there.
If you can't quite stomach drinking black lemonade, you can always take activated charcoal capsules instead.
