Everyone Just Discovered the Actual Flavor of Haribo’s Green Gummy Bear, and People Are Completely Confused
If you had to guess the flavor of Haribo Goldbears gummies while blindfolded, how many do you think you would get correct? The decades-old German-made gummy just turned 100 in 2022, and even after all of this time, fans of the colorful gummy bear snack still seem to be confused as to which flavor each color represents — most notably the green bear.
After a recently resurfaced post on Reddit pointed out that the green Haribo gummy bear is in fact strawberry-flavored, consumers have been very much up in arms over the controversy. And it’s been pretty comical to witness, if you ask me.
If we ignore the fact that the answer is right there on the back of the bag itself, it’s pretty interesting to think about what our taste buds tell us when we’re eating food. And while the flavor of a Haribo gummy from one color to the next may be negligible, it’s quite understandable that people wouldn’t expect green to represent strawberry.
And as if things couldn’t get any more confusing, one consumer commented, “At least in their home country of Germany, Haribo has changed that several years ago. Green is now apple, and strawberry has a different, brighter shade of red than raspberry.”
This information of course prompted another consumer to respond with “Everything I know is a lie.”
If you ask me, my solution would be to just name the flavors by color, and leave it up to the consumer to decide what flavor it is to them. I mean, doesn’t that make more sense than to color a snack after a color it traditionally isn’t? As I personally love the taste of blue a little more than green, this conundrum doesn’t affect me much. But for those of you that find the green gummy a favorite, chaos just might be ensuing.
If you’re anything like myself, you’ll be making a pit stop at the store today to grab a bag for a little science experiment. And if that trip happens to be at Costco, be sure to check out their Cranberry Walnut Bread and Macaron Brownies, both of which are guaranteed to take your tastebuds for a whirl.
