Egg Products from Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and Costco Recalled Due to Listeria Outbreak
If you’ve recently found yourself on a protein-packed, hard-boiled egg kick and have taken a liking to those pre-cooked, pre-peeled eggs that are sold in bulk at grocery stores across the country, be on extra alert. In the past week Almark Foods, which has a facility in Gainesville, Georgia, has expanded their nationwide recall for over 30 brands of their pre-cooked egg products, which are sold at major retailers like Walmart, Lidl, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and Costco, due to a possible listeria contamination.
The company expanded their recall of all hard-boiled and peeled eggs in pails manufactured at the Gainesville facility because of a possible association with a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak that has been linked to several reported illnesses and one reported death. If you have recently purchased hard-boiled eggs sold from this brand, the FDA suggests that you toss them immediately.
As for the brands, take note of pre-peeled hard-boiled eggs, egg salad, and frozen-diced eggs from Eggland’s Best, Fresh Thyme, Lucerne, O Organics, Rainbow Farms, and more. The Centers for Disease Prevention advises against eating these egg products until the listeria infection has been cleared. So if you recently purchased the bulk hard-boiled eggs in pouches from Almark Foods, get rid of them ASAP. Almark Foods has recalled all products containing boiled eggs that were made in their facility, but these products have unfortunately have already been distributed nationwide. You can identify those potentially affected by checking for “Best If Used By” dates up through March 2, 2020.
If you are concerned that this recall affects you, you can view the whole list of items and brands under the recall to be sure. The full list is located on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
In the meantime, we recommend checking your fridge for anything that matches the above description and making your own hard-boiled eggs to be on the safe side.
