Have you made the mistake of buying your Halloween candy too early? Me too. So now I’m eating through an industrial-sized bag of M&Ms, Snickers, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Thankfully a batch of brownies can envelop at least a few of these fun-sized treats so I can share the candy with neighbors before Halloween.

Here’s how to upgrade your brownies (and unload some of that Halloween candy) with a fast-and-fancy addition to your favorite brownie batter.

First, Make the Brownie Batter

Before you can transform a pan of brownies into a Halloween treat, you’ll need to mix up the batter. Below is our recipe for homemade chewy brownies, but a good box of brownie mix works just as well (here’s our readers’ favorite brownie box mix).

And if all you want is a brownie for one, we’ve got you covered there as well.

How to Make Candy-Studded Brownies

Fold 3/4 cup of M&Ms — plain, peanut, or peanut butter are all welcome — into the batter for a regular 9×9-inch-pan of brownies before pouring the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the top of the brownies with another 1/4 cup of M&Ms and bake according to the directions.

This brownie combination is a big hit with kids, too. Assistant Food Editor Sheela says, “I honestly crave these every year because they remind me of third grade.”
