Just about anyone will tell you that the most stressful part of putting together a successful Thanksgiving dinner is making sure everything is cooked and ready to serve at the same time. In addition to making sure your turkey is fully cooked and your mashed potatoes don’t get cold, one thing you don’t want to do is forget about the gravy!

A flavorful gravy completes the perfect Thanksgiving dinner plate, so you don’t want to be stuck with gravy that’s gotten cold and lumpy before dinner or, even worse, gravy you left warming on the stove only to find out it’s burnt when it’s time to eat!

Enter: Barbara Costello, from brunchwithbabs on TikTok. In one of her latest videos, Babs shares a range of different tips for making Thanksgiving cooking a breeze, including a trick for keeping gravy warm without taking up space on your stovetop.

Instead of leaving your gravy unattended in a saucepan on low heat, transfer it to a large insulated bottle while it’s still very warm. (Pst! Her bottle of choice is a Stanley x Pendleton collab, which comes in a white or green colorway.) This way you can keep the gravy warm and pourable but also out of the way! Babs also recommends keeping the mashed potatoes warm in a slow cooker, right alongside the bottle of gravy. Kitchn contributor Patty Catalano also vouches for the method. “It’s great especially if you are traveling and transporting the gravy and/or if there’s no room on the stovetop,” she says.

This trick for keeping gravy in a Thermos is also one that comes from Food Network host Alton Brown. In his recipe for “Good Gravy” he includes an instruction to pour the gravy into a Thermos to keep it warm.

While you put together your last-minute shopping list, either in person or virtually, just be sure to add a nice, affordable insulated wide-mouth bottle to your list. In addition to keeping various beverages hot for a while, it will be one of your best defenses against cold gravy.
