Surely, you have heard of Gwyneth Paltrow? The actress known for movies that span genres (Shakespeare in Love, Iron Man) and her luxe, aspirational lifestyle brand, Goop, is somewhat of an internet fixture these days. It’s just so hard not to click on anything that includes her name. (Well, it’s hard for me.) Gwyneth constantly makes headlines for sharing the details of her health and wellness routine — and this round is no different.

In a recent Goop newsletter, the actress included shout-outs to her favorite products, as well as updates from her life. Some may consider them banal; others, fascinating. I straddle the line here. In addition to some of her favorite recipes, she revealed her self-described “boring” relationship with alcohol: One drink a week.

With just one glass in her booze budget, what does she reach for? Apparently, red wine or whiskey. She also noted an Irish-American brand of whiskey, Keeper’s Heart, on her to-try list. I find scotch to be far superior, so this is proof that not even Gwyneth Paltrow has perfect taste. Although I digress!

Although Gwyneth often gets flack for promoting an elitist or unattainably “pure” lifestyle, I vibe with her on this. She has been public about her evolving relationship with alcohol; something many of us can relate to. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gwyneth told comedian Chelsea Handler, she drank almost nightly. But after cutting back, she realized she felt much better, and has continued the trend. (Gwyneth also had Covid early on.)

For the star, it seems to be all about the ritual; enjoying the drink thoughtfully, and sharing it with good company and conversation. While my alcohol intake fluctuates throughout the year, that’s an intention I try to adopt no matter how much I’m drinking. Taking stock of how I’m feeling before pouring helps. So does having a favorite glass that brings mindfulness to the act.

Let the internet snark all they want about this; for once, I’m completely Team Gwyneth.
