I Own 7 Cutting Boards — But This $13 Find Is the Only One I Ever Use
Before moving into a new apartment at the beginning of this year, I did some preliminary household shopping to stock up on everything I thought my roommates and I would need, from cooking utensils to reusable dishcloths to hand soap refills. Included in my big Grove Co. haul was a wooden cutting board because I didn’t own one. Come to find out, both of my roommates each owned a couple of boards themselves, and I subsequently received Material’s fancy reBoard from work. All of a sudden, there were seven boards parked behind the kitchen sink faucet, so I had my fair share to choose from anytime I needed to chop a zucchini. But even now, I still reach for the same one every time: my trusty bamboo prep board from Grove Co. that I bought eight months ago. It’s easily my most-used meal prep tool, and at $13, it’s hardly expensive.
What is the Bamboo Prep Board?
As its name states, this cutting board is made from 100% bamboo, a material that’s not only sustainable, but also durable and naturally antibacterial. It has a soft, smooth finish but still holds up to sharp blades and heavy usage. And, at 10 inches long and 7.5 inches wide, it’s the perfect size for preparing individual meals. I have a fairly small kitchen, and we eventually found that most of our boards were too big to keep behind the sink faucet, so now we store them inside a cabinet. But this one is still able to sit nicely behind the faucet without getting in the way or taking up too much space. Regardless of whether you’re slicing bread or chopping through fibrous vegetables, this board is perfect for the job.
Why I Love the Bamboo Prep Board
In addition to being the perfect size, this cutting board is also the perfect thickness. One of our cutting boards is really thick and heavy as a result, whereas others we own are thin to the point of being flimsy. But this one is just right, and despite my using it almost every day this year, it has no noticeable knife scratches. I love the basic light-colored wood finish, too; we have a few multicolored boards, and I find that they look too busy in our nearly all-white kitchen. Finally, I love how easy the board is to clean. Washing it in the dishwasher is not recommended, but I have no problem hand-washing it. Even stubborn food stains come out with a bit of scrubbing!
As you might imagine, I’m not the only happy bamboo board customer. “I’ve had this board for some time now,” one Grove Co. reviewer wrote. “I like to get a really good feel for the product… This is one that has passed with flying colors for me. It’s just the right size for my tiny kitchen, just the right size to dice an onion or slice a carrot, then just pick it up and dump whatever you’ve sliced or diced into your bowl or pan.” Other shoppers noted that the board is also easy to transport thanks to its compact design. “Perfect size cutting board for picnics,” another reviewer noted. “When we travel, especially in hotel rooms, we can cut up fruit and cheeses to enjoy a snack or meal.”
If you’re in the market for a new cutting board, this one won’t fail you. As is the case with any Grove Co. product, you can rest assured that it’s made from good materials and will last a long time. Snag it now, and don’t forget to stock up on some dish soap or water bottle cleaner pods while you’re at it!
