Group Baking: Tuesdays with Dorie
It’s a good day when we stumble upon a fan club (of sorts) devoted to one of our favorite cookbook authors, Dorie Greenspan, especially when that club has a clever name and turns out weekly creations like Brioche Raisin Snails, above. It’s like a book club — only the members are working their way through Dorie’s Baking: From My Home to Yours instead of, say, Anna Karenina…
Laurie Woodward of Quirky Cupcake started Tuesdays with Dorie to document her commitment to baking one recipe from the book each week. She invited friends to join her and now has 100 members, mostly other food bloggers, who share tips, tweaks, and triumphs with each other through the site. A different member chooses each week’s recipe, like the Brown Sugar-Apple Cheesecake, below, baked on February 12th.
We love reading comments that begin, “It’s in the oven right now…,” which give us a feeling of immediacy and anticipation right along with the bakers. Plus, it’s comforting to know that other cooks fret when something doesn’t look exactly like the photo or doesn’t appear to be browning properly in the oven.
As of now, the blog doesn’t have pictures of the weekly projects, but Laurie says that might be in the works (yes, please!) She often posts photos on Quirky Cupcake.
Dorie even chimed in on her own blog last week with a heartfelt endorsement of the group…
