Memorial Day is more than just a paid day off from work, a reason to head to the beach, or an excuse to throw a barbecue. It’s a day to commemorate those fallen soldiers who have passed away while serving in the United States Armed Forces. In honor of this, many local and online retailers are expected to offer shoppers huge savings in the form of large deals and blowout sales. If you prefer cooking out with friends and family over deal-hunting with the masses, however, then you may be wondering which grocery stores are open on Memorial Day (Monday, May 29). 

Luckily most grocery stores are expected to operate during their normal business hours, but there are a few exceptions — like Costco and Aldi — that will either be completely closed or have adjusted hours for the holiday. So, before you jump in the car to pick up any last-minute items for your cookout this upcoming Monday, you may want to first confirm that your local grocery store will be open, and then pray that what you need hasn’t been emptied off the shelf. As always, though, be sure to check your local store for any variance to the operating hours for the day!

  • Aldi: Stores will be closing at 6 p.m. on Memorial Day.
  • BJ’s Wholesale: Locations will be open during their normal business hours.
  • Bravo: Stores will be open during normal hours.
  • Erewhon: Stores will be open during regular hours.
  • Food Lion: All locations set to operate during normal store hours.
  • The Fresh Market: Stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Giant Food Store: Locations will be open during normal store hours, with the pharmacy operating from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Harris Teeter: Stores should be open during normal store hours, but please confirm with your local store before visiting.
  • Harveys Supermarket: Stores will be open during normal hours.
