Believe it or not, Labor Day is fast approaching, so bring on the barbecues! While the holiday has become synonymous with cookouts, parades, and beach vacations, its origins run deep in American history. Labor Day is a national holiday in the United States that was created to celebrate the hard work, contributions, and achievements of American laborers. For more than 140 years, the United States has designated the first Monday in September as Labor Day, creating a three-day weekend that many people look forward to all summer long.

Quick Overview

What Grocery Stores Are Open on Labor Day?

Even though Labor Day is a national holiday, there are still plenty of grocery stores that will be open, although some will have limited hours. Grocery stores like Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Sam’s Club, BJ’s, and many more will be ready to help out in a pinch with any last-minute grocery runs.

Labor Day, which will be celebrated this year on Monday, September 4, is a holiday that calls for parties — and those who plan to break out the grill and play host for a day have quite a bit of work cut out for them, not the least of which is grocery shopping. Planning a barbecue is no small task, and if you are among the many people who need to stock up on condiments, hamburger and hot dog buns, and all of the ingredients for potato salad, you’ll definitely want to prepare ahead of time.
