This month, I taste-tested more than 40 new products that are coming out right this minute. Here are the ones I’m most excited about. I think you’ll be excited about them, too.

Pre-packaged meal kits have become increasingly popular over the last few years. While the convenience of these kits may win you over, there’s another important aspect to consider: the astonishing amount of packaging they require. With many of these kits, each ingredient comes individually packed and clearly labeled to eliminate the need to measure at all. If you need one carrot, you’ll get one carrot in its own bag with a label that says carrot.

Hummus is the ultimate healthy snack: Chickpeas are packed with fiber and protein, and accompanied by a platter of crunchy veggies for dipping, you’re really getting double the nutritional value. Basically, if you’re looking to replace chips and salsa with a snack that actually benefits your body, you need to grab some hummus. There’s just one problem: Chickpeas can be a little boring (sorry), even with the addition of salt, olive oil, and a dash of lemon juice (double sorry).

European supermarket giant Lidl, who just recently launched in the United States, is already tugging at our heart strings: The grocery store is collaborating with a nonprofit on a project to rescue puppies. The partnership is with Operation Paws for Homes, also called OPH, and the collective goal is to benefit adoptable dog shelters across the nation. Called the “Retail to the Rescue Project,” the initiative will take place this week, reports Progressive Grocer.

Seven months after announcing a test-run with delivery service Shipt in Tampa Bay, Costco is finally rolling out its delivery program nationwide.

There’s good news in store for rosé-lovers: An affordable line of the pink wine just won a prestigious award for its cost and quality. This means you can enjoy high-quality rosé without having to break the bank. An $8 bottle of rosé sold at Aldi, a supermarket known for its affordable prices, is now an award-winning bottle.

During my 37 years of life on this planet, I’ve always been the sort of person who lives large on a little budget. I splurge where needed, but mostly search for good deals and make the most of very little. I keep a well-stocked pantry and try my best to live by the motto of “I only eat out when they make it better than I do.” That may sound elitist, but it keeps me in check from just caving to being lazy and ordering in.

Case in point: As soon as I discovered that Target had listed a box of 24 pre-cut Buddy the Elf sugar cookies, I was ready to start stringing up Christmas lights in my Santa costume. I should also come clean and admit that I look forward to the time of year when it’s totally socially acceptable to make, and eat, an entire box of Pillsbury sugar cookies in one sitting.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but everyone’s favorite vegetable is currently being recalled over E.coli concerns. According to USA Today, a California farm that was connected to the recent romaine lettuce recall is now recalling red-leaf lettuce, green-leaf lettuce, and cauliflower. As we look back on trends of the past year, one that seems to be prevalent, unfortunately, is contaminated food. Many staple foods we enjoy have been subject to their own recalls this year, from romaine lettuce to summer fruits like watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe to millions of pounds of meat including chicken, beef, and turkey. Sadly, the CDC has an additional warning on raw turkey that you should know about.

If it seems like a company in the grocery industry is recalling their product every month, you’re not far off. Right after a report about the massive beef recall that claimed 12 million pounds of beef surfaced in November 2018, another recall of turkey meat was issued in late December.

Last week supermarket chain Publix (which has locations spanning the southeastern United States), released a statement on their website stating that Hometown Food Company — the makers of Pillsbury, Hungry Jack, and Funfetti products, amongst others — issued a voluntary recall on Pillsbury Unbleached All Purpose Flour products because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

California-grown avocados are now being recalled in six states by the company Henry Avocado Corporation as a precaution over concerns about a listeria outbreak. “Henry Avocado is issuing this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during a routine government inspection at its California packing facility,” a statement from the company reads.

Trader Joe’s just released the most adorable grocery find: teeny-tiny avocados. Ranging from $2.69 to $2.99, shoppers can get a bag of six miniature Insta-worthy avocados. And while they’re not practical for mass consumption, there are some benefits. One benefit, for the health-conscious consumer, is portion control.
