The Great British Bake Off is a perfect winter-hibernating show. You can curl up on the couch with a blanket, and hopefully a cookie of some sort, and watch contestants make the most amazing baked goods imaginable. That’s why it feels especially sad to report on some news during this time of year: Sandi Toksvig, one of the amazing hosts is officially leaving the show, according to the Guardian. Toksvig announced the news on Twitter today.

She said she is leaving the show to spend more time on her other work ventures, but she will always love the dear friends she’s made on the show like Noel, Prue, and Paul. She also said her waistline needs a little break from the show, jokingly I am sure, and yet I think we can all imagine what being on a baking show might be like! So, perhaps focusing on work and grabbing some fresh greens in the day might be a nice change for the time being.

Her farewell was sweet, as she knows the show includes fantastic bakers and talents, and will do well in the future without her.

Still people are replying on Twitter accordingly — some are in shock, others are disappointed, but generally they all understand and wish her well in her various other career pursuits. And of course, they appreciated her time on the show, making it the fabulous series it is today.

Toksvig and comedian Noel Fielding had joined forces to become the new hosts of Bake Off after the show moved from BBC to Channel 4 back in 2016. So, they’ve had a lot of time together to make some magic on the screen. Fielding is of course sad, too. He tweeted: “I feel like Tom without Jerry ! Mick without a Keef… Double acts are rare and magical beast and working with you was a pleasure.” On Instagram, he added: “Thank you for 3 wonderful years! You will always be my favourite Ewok Viking.”

She will come back to the tent one last time in spring for The Great Celebrity Bake Off, which is a charity event for the organization Stand Up to Cancer. As for who her replacement is, we don’t know yet. But we do know it will be hard to get someone with the same pizzazz and charisma. Toksvig — you will be missed!
